March 2013
The Sharks Supporters Club Gauteng Central was formed by a group of passionate supporters in the early 2000s. This group organized tours and screenings of games.
In 2005, the senior management of The Sharks (Pty) Limited wanted to make the Supporters Clubs official and offered The Club the opportunity to sign a License Agreement with Sharks. This enabled the Supporters Club’s to become a bigger part of the Sharks family with the full backing and support of The Sharks.
Vaughan Clarke, Chairman for 2005 & 2006 and the Committee decided that it was time to seek our own premises, resulting in the Supporters finding their own permanent and exclusive home at the Northcliff Country Club. The premises offered by Northcliff had been basically unused for many years, so the committee had the mammoth task of getting their hands dirty and making their new home “match ready”. Many items had to be purchased; from the basics to the very pricey tables, chairs, proxima for big screen viewing, glasses etc. Initially there wasn’t even fridges, the bar was run from cooler boxes which was really hard going on the bar staff, but good fun at the same time.
As time moved on during 2007 & 2008, Chairman, Sean Mc Adam and his committee continued to purchase the necessary items to enhance the club and raise the standards. We saw the investment of our own bar stools, TV’s, crockery and cutlery, table cloths etc. coupled with a fresh coat of paint every now and again and new signage to improve the image of the club.
Now in 2009, Chairman, Eddie de Klerk and his committee have given the club a complete “facelift” by redoing the bar area, renovating the store room into a kitchen, making a new storeroom and ending off the year with the building of new toilets, something that’s been on the “wish list” for many years.
Being a family club, the various committees over the years have also done their best to make additional facilities available for the children who frequent the club on a weekly basis. Through various donations and fund-raising efforts, the children have their own area with a fully-functional wendy house equipped with TV and DVD player, games etc. The playground area also sports a jungle gym and jumping castles are hired for most match days.
Over the years the committee and its members have worked really hard to raise funds to make the club completely self-sufficient and after many years its reached its goals.
Towards the end of 2011 Dave Soutter took over chairmanship from Eddie de Klerk and relocated the club back to our old premises at Northcliff Country Club.
A new smoking area was created outside on the patio as well as roll up canvas blinds and flat screen tvs. The kitchen has been privatised and serves delicious meals from Tammy, a qualified chef at reasonable prices.
We also have an enclosed childrens play area where there are swings, jungle gyms and a trampoline.
